- Conducting studies/research to understand sustainability challenges and develop innovative ideas to address those challenges.

Current Projects and Achievements
- UOS has allocated funding to encourage research related to sustainability as follows:
- Total research fund for sustainability in 2018/2019: 5,584,162 US Dollars
- Total research fund for sustainability in 2019/2020: 4,210,402 US Dollars
- Total research fund for sustainability in 2020/2021: 11,930,244 US Dollars
- Average annual research fund (last 3 years): 7,241,603 US Dollars
- Three Research Institutions were established to position UOS as a hub for science and technology research in the UAE:
- Research Institute of Sciences & Engineering Research Groups (RISE)
- Research Institute of Medical & Health Sciences
- Research Institute of Humanities & Social Sciences
New Initiatives
- Establishing a research group to conduct studies and research toward developing a sustainable university campus.
