Goals

  1. Conducting studies/research to understand sustainability challenges and develop innovative ideas to address those challenges.

  1. Percentage of faculty and/or staff engaged in sustainability research.
  2. Percentage of research-producing departments engaged in sustainability research.
  3. Ongoing program to encourage students from multiple disciplines to conduct research in sustainability.
  4. Program to encourage faculty to conduct research in sustainability topics.
  5. Policies that recognize interdisciplinary research in faculty promotion and tenure decisions.
  6. Ongoing library support for sustainability research and learning.
  7. Open access policy for research-producing divisions to deposit scholarly articles in a repository.
  8. Financial incentives for faculty to support open access publication charges.

Current Projects and Achievements

  1. UOS has allocated funding to encourage research related to sustainability as follows:
    • Total research fund for sustainability in 2018/2019: 5,584,162 US Dollars
    • Total research fund for sustainability in 2019/2020: 4,210,402 US Dollars
    • Total research fund for sustainability in 2020/2021: 11,930,244 US Dollars
    • Average annual research fund (last 3 years): 7,241,603 US Dollars
  2. Three Research Institutions were established to position UOS as a hub for science and technology research in the UAE:
    • Research Institute of Sciences & Engineering Research Groups (RISE)
    • Research Institute of Medical & Health Sciences
    • Research Institute of Humanities & Social Sciences
