The Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences (RIMHS) at the University of Sharjah (UoS) have several high-end equipment's for cutting-edge biomedical research. These equipment's have been used by several research groups in RIMHS and thereby helped to produce several high-impact international publications. However, inappropriate use of such equipment can severely affect the work of other researchers. Therefore, this committee is formed to ensure that all the equipment's in RIMHS are used appropriately and responsibly by the users.

The committee aims to ensure the proper functioning of all major equipment without hindrance and any emergency accidents that might affect the experiments for users in RIMHS.

Committee Members

  • The Equipment mentoring committee is composed of the following members:

Continuous practical education committee (CPEC) was founded in October 2017 in the Research institute for medical and health sciences. CPEC arranges seminars, meetings and training workshops in collaboration with industrial companies and distributors and in house researchers. This committee aims to educate our researchers including faculty members, post-doctoral research associates, research assistants and graduate students about the common techniques and equipment available in RIHMS. In addition, this committee is keen to broaden the knowledge about the new state of the art equipment and techniques in the scientific field. Besides improving our scientific understanding and troubleshooting approaches and keep updated with the advancement of science. Furthermore, these regular training workshops would improve the connections with the companies and give insights into their newly launched equipment and services.

The Journal Club meets on a weekly basis, with the primary objective of appraising and evaluating contemporary scientific articles from the academic literature. During each session, a designated presenter undertakes the responsibility of presenting an article that encapsulates a pioneering discovery or breakthrough result through a structured presentation, followed by an open discussion.

It is important to recognize that Journal Club sessions serve a multifaceted purpose, extending beyond the mere appraisal of scholarly articles. These gatherings serve to develop essential skills in public speaking, cultivating a culture of rigorous critical thinking and scientific discussion.

Through various activities, events, and workshops, the research promotion committee aims to create an engaging and interactive environment for undergraduates to learn more about research. Our goal is to expose students to the exciting possibilities and advancements in medical research. This is accomplished by highlighting how research contributes to advancement in diagnosis, treatment, and overall patient care.

Students will be having the opportunity to interact with experts from the field through seminars and presentations, gaining insight into the fascinating world of medical research. In addition, the committee encourages undergraduates to actively participate in research projects and cooperate with faculty members and professionals. We provide open days and tours to our research centre (RIHMS) to support students and assist them in developing the required skills and knowledge to excel in research endeavours. In addition to these activities, the committee organizes research events and conferences, which allow postgraduates students to present their own research findings to the undergraduates. This not only enhances their confidence but also gives them a sense of accomplishment and belonging to the research community.

Overall, the research promotion committee fosters a culture of curiosity, discovery, and innovation among undergraduate students and postgraduate as well. Creating a passion for research in students early on, can shape their medical field's future and empower them to make a significant impact.
