University of Sharjah Medical Libraries Forum Explores Innovation in Healthcare and Information Services

The University of Sharjah hosted the 2nd Medical Libraries Forum, organized by the Emirates Library and Information Association in collaboration with the Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter. The event brought together a distinguished group of experts and specialists from the UAE and beyond to discuss the latest advancements in medical libraries and health information services. The forum covered a range of topics, including smart applications in medical libraries and health information services.

One of the main sessions was Research and Technological Developments: Emerging Trends which explored recent breakthroughs in health information technology and scientific research.

Prof. Hassan Al-Sereihy, President of the Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter, underscored the forum’s role in enhancing the contribution of medical libraries to healthcare by providing accurate information and research support. He emphasized that technological advancements necessitate the adoption of smart solutions to meet the evolving needs of researchers and medical professionals.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Jufaiti, representing the Emirates Library and Information Association, highlighted the forum’s objective of fostering collaboration between academic and healthcare institutions. He noted that medical libraries play a crucial role in clinical decision-making by offering reliable information sources for healthcare practitioners.

In the same vein, Prof. Esam Agamy, Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation at the University of Sharjah, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to hosting such events, which contribute to enhancing the quality and impact of research, education, and health information. He stressed that modern digital transformations present both challenges and opportunities, necessitating innovative strategies for managing medical knowledge and information.
