With the Participation of Universities from the UAE, Germany, Spain, and Poland and under the Slogan "Distinguished Themes in Eastern Sciences": The University of Sharjah launches the 4th SIFHAMS International Scientific Forum
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, the University launched the "4th SIFHAMS International Scientific Forum". The Forum was under the slogan Distinguished Themes in Eastern Sciences and was organized by the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Muslim and Arab Sciences (SIFHAMS) at the University of Sharjah in cooperation with the University of Cologne in Germany. His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, attended the virtual Forum along with Professor Mesut Idriz, Acting Director of the SIFHAMS, and a large number of specialists, graduate students and researchers in the field of the contributions of Arab and Muslim scholars to the scientific renaissance over the ages.
In his opening speech, His Excellency the Chancellor of the University expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, who is considered a symbol of pride in every matter of scientific history, knowledge and Arab and Islamic heritage, because His Highness spent many years in the study, research and scientific achievement in the field.
The Chancellor also pointed out that this Forum and other forums held by SIFHAMS today have the honor to host many scholars interested in the history of science from various countries of the world, who share in embodying the status and value of Islamic civilization.
The Forum discussed several topics during its sessions including the topic of "Hypothetical Effects of Muslim Sciences in Poland in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance" by Prof. Katarzyna Pachniak from the University of Warsaw in Poland; "Al-Marzouki's Text in the Milky Way and How it is Included in Chapter 21 of his Book of Times and Places" by Prof. Andreas Eckard from the University of Cologne in Germany; "Moroccan Arab Diversions and Changes: A Case Study" by Prof. Montserrat Benitez of the Spanish National Research Council; the impact of Arab astronomy on the calendar, and addressed the role of the astronomer Omar Khayyam in discovering and publishing ancient calendars, and then comparing them to the current Gregorian calendar, which was named after the Vatican monk Gregor XIII by Prof. Mashhoor Al Wardat from the University of Sharjah; and "Work and Living on a Ship: Maritime Work and Its Organization in the Ottoman Navy" by Prof. Gul Shen from the University of Bonn in Germany.
