UoS and SFRA Explore areas of Joint Cooperation

His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UoS), welcomed His Excellency Ali Ahmed Ali Abu Ghazin, Chairman of Sharjah Fish Resources Authority (SFRA), along with his accompanying delegation, to discuss various areas of joint cooperation. This includes scientific research and its role in preserving the environment, developing fisheries, and raising awareness about the effects of environmental and water pollution on fish.

During the meeting, the Chancellor emphasized that the University of Sharjah, along with its various colleges and research institutes, is willing to contribute and cooperate with the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority in conducting scientific research within SFRA’s fields of interest and activities. He noted that the studies conducted by the departments of biotechnology and nutrition, as well as research groups at the College of Engineering, will contribute to serving the local community in fields of common interest. The chancellor also highlighted the opportunity for SFRA’s administrative cadres to enroll in master’s and doctoral programs at the University and conduct studies under the joint supervision of the University and the Authority.

His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin praised the fundamental role of the University of Sharjah in serving the local community, explaining that the Authority seeks to benefit from the University’s expertise, develop a set of policies and regulations for SFRA, raise awareness about the impact of overfishing and the importance of food security and fisheries. At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to hold a series of meetings and workshops with specialists from both sides, contributing to setting and defining general frameworks for future cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Youssef Al Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor for Student and Branch Affairs. In addition to attendees from the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority including Mr. Obaid Alsouqi, Director of the President’s Office at SFRA, Ms. Aisha Alhammadi, Director of the Fish Wealth Department, and Ms. Qasayed Almazmi, Environmental Sciences and Nature Reserves Researcher.
