The University of Sharjah (UoS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) in the Republic of South Korea, to foster collaboration in research, exchange academic expertise, and organize seminars and scientific conferences in the fields of technology and engineering. The MoU was signed on behalf of UoS by its Chancellor, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, and on behalf of the Korean Institute by Dr. Sung-kwang Yang, President of KBSI.

The agreement stipulates the establishment of scientific and technological cooperation between UoS and KBSI in all areas of science and engineering. It aims to facilitate direct communication and collaboration between research groups, and researchers through the exchange of visits, knowledge, and academic personnel. Additionally, the agreement aims to boost joint research projects, conduct joint training workshops, scientific conferences, seminars, and define the mechanisms for the use of facilities, laboratories, and research tools by both parties.

On the sidelines of the signing of the agreement, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, welcomed this collaboration, emphasizing the University’s commitment to enhancing scientific cooperation with international academic institutions, with the continuous support of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah.

The Chancellor highlighted numerous opportunities for collaboration between the University and the Institute in areas of engineering, technology, and science, pointing out that UoS has various specialized research laboratories built to the latest scientific standards.The two parties agreed to conduct a series of workshops, in which researchers from UoS and KBSI will identify and study proposed research topics and ideas to work on during the upcoming period.The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. Abdallah Shanableh, Director of the Institute of Sciences and Engineering Research, Prof. Abdelaziz Soufyane, Director of Office of International Relations. Attendees from the KBSI side included Dr. Haejin Kim, Division of Analytical Science Director, KBSI, Dr. Jong-han Won, Principal Researcher and Dr. Yang-Hoon Heo, Principal Researcher.
