University of Sharjah and Khorfakkan University Welcome New Faculty Members

Within the framework of the University of Sharjah's (UoS) continuous keenness to attract the best researchers and faculty members in various scientific and academic disciplines, the Institute of Leadership in Higher Education organized the annual welcome meeting for new faculty members of the academic year 2022/2023, who recently joined the University of Sharjah and Khorfakkan university.

The new faculty members were welcomed by His Excellency, Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, in the presence of Prof. Ahmed Al-Shamma, Director of Khorfakkan University, and a number of vice chancellors, college deans, directors of various centers and departments at the UoS.​

In his welcoming speech, the Chancellor of the UoS conveyed to the new faculty members the greetings and regards of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, where he praised the UoS's remarkable achievements in the scientific, research and academic fields, pointing to its advanced position achieved at the local, regional and international level according to the latest international classifications, and its progress in various scientific fields, including computing and informatics, medicine, physics, astronomical sciences and sustainability. He also highlighted the importance of scientific research and its role in serving and developing the society, and presented a number of statistics that shows the university's development in the field of scientific research in quantity and quality during the past few years.

For his part, Prof. Ahmed Al-Shamma, Director of Khorfakkan University, presented a wide range of guidance and advice for new faculty members on the importance of cooperation with students and their parents, as well as adherence to the work regulations and laws to ensure the success and the development of the teaching and learning system.

During the meeting, Prof. Youssef Al Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, introduced the UoS's teaching mechanisms and the modern technological applications used in the education system, while Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Graduate Studies and Research, delivered an overview on the UoS's scientific research system, its research centers and institutes and how to maintain research excellence at the UoS. In addition, Prof. Esam Agamy, Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation, presented an introduction on the accreditation of the university's various academic programs and the its development in terms of the number of students and its academic programs.

For her part, Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, Assistant Chancellor of Branch Affairs, highlighted the university's efforts to prevent the spread of the virus (covid-19) and the precautionary measures taken by the university to ensure the safety of its staff and students.

Prof. Maher Omar, Director of Institute of Leadership in Higher Education, highlighted the importance of introductory meetings organized by the university for new faculty members, as it allow them to explore the university's various departments. Thereafter, he introduced the institute and its activities and events organized throughout the academic year including workshops, lectures and training programs, while Dr. Hussein Mohammed Elmehdi, Dean of Academic Support Services, presented the institutional policies, the university's semesters policies, standards of the university campus and the mechanism for calculating the Cumulative GPA.

The meeting included the participation of a number of representatives of administration, departments and colleges at the UoS including the Sustainability Office, the Office of Strategic Planning, Information Technology Center, UoS's libraries and Human Resources Department, in which every department and center delivered a brief introduction of the services and capabilities offered as well as answered inquires of new members.
