The University of Sharjah and the GCC Patent Office: Seminar on "Innovation and Invention in the Fields of Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Administration"
The University of Sharjah held a virtual scientific seminar entitled "Innovation and Invention in the Fields of Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Administration" organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, represented by the Research Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences, the Technology Transfer Office and the Department of Research Outreach. This in cooperation with the GCC Patent Office of the Secretariat General of the Arab GCC.
The seminar addressed several topics including the definition of intellectual property, the difference between innovation and invention, and the factors that help transform innovations into successful pioneering projects. It also discussed conditions for the invention, how and steps for registering it, and the offices for obtaining patents. In addition to scientific research in universities and how to register it as intellectual property and benefit from its applied results, copyrights, registration of trademarks, and industrial models.
Prof. Faker Al Gharaibeh, Acting Director of Research Institute of Humanities & social Sciences (RIHSS), indicated that innovation is always present in the humanities and social sciences whether in the applications of translation or music or the laws that accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic and entrepreneurship, and even with regard to the elderly or children with disabilities. He added that the institute supports joint research in multidisciplinary fields in order to translate many ideas and results of social and humanities research into pioneering innovations that serve society and prove the role of the humanities and social sciences in creativity and stimulating it.
