The University of Sharjah Adopts Remote Communication Platforms for Scientific Theses Defense
Stemming from the University of Sharjah's endeavors to ensure the continuation of the educational process for its students enrolled in the College of Graduate Studies with all its programs and specializations, the University Council of Deans approved in its last session a decision to start applying the mechanism for discussing Master's and PhD theses, submitted by graduate students, using modern electronic technologies and programs used by the University of Sharjah currently in the distance learning process. This was stated by Prof. Raafat El-Awady, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, adding that the College has provided all the necessary tools to start applying this method for all theses defenses scheduled during the current period. During this period, researchers were contacted to familiarize them with this mechanism and coordinate with them and with members of the Supervisory Board on the dates set for those discussions and how to adopt them, by sending a link with a guide that contains a detailed explanation of the steps to do the thesis defense remotely using the technologies in Microsoft teams.
The Dean of the College added that they expect that 80 Master's theses, 34 PhD theses and 70 thesis plans will be discussed during the current April and May months for all of the University graduate programs, which currently number 49 programs, to allow graduate students to complete their graduation requirements on time.
