Thanks to the Committed Efforts of Several Charities in the Country: The University of Sharjah Provides Personal Laptops for its Unable Students
Within the framework of the continuous cooperation between the University of Sharjah and many local authorities in all fields, and in the interest of the University Administration to contribute to providing the best teaching and learning environment for its students of different levels and specialties, and as a result of the current circumstances that necessitated the transition to distance learning in which a computer and technical software are the primary means to receive education, as well as aiming to reduce the burden on University students who are unable. The Sharjah Charity International, the International Humanitarian and Charity Organization, and the Al Maktoum Foundation provided material and in-kind support through which the University of Sharjah was able to provide a number of personal laptops for students who are unable to help them continue to receive their academic lessons and take the final exams scheduled next week. The University already started the process of distributing these devices to the University students in need in the University Dormitories for male and female students, as well as a number of students with disabilities, and a number of Medical College students, and other groups in need of them, whether in the main building of the University or its various branches.
In this context, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University, praised the national and humanitarian role shown by the unlimited support provided by the Sharjah Charity International, the International Humanitarian and Charity Organization, and the Al Maktoum Foundation in contributing to alleviating the burden on the University students in light of those circumstances that require compassion of all. The Chancellor was keen to thank all those in charge of those charitable organizations for their efforts, which were dedicated to supporting some cases of unable students, and providing an important tool for distance learning., which undoubtedly will help the students overcome the physical and psychological obstacles in their studies so that they can achieve the best results. This contribution gives them an incentive to exert more effort and work to reach the best academic results and achieve the ambition of leading our nation to reach the highest international levels in education.
For his part, Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sharjah for Community Affairs, while delivering a number of devices to University dorms students accompanied by Prof. Mahmoud Darabseh, Dean of Men's Student Affairs, stressed the University's keenness to create all appropriate conditions for University students in order to accomplish their educational tasks with the best results. He pointed out that these devices will be provided to a number of groups in the University starting with dorms students, students with disabilities, and a number of requests from medical colleges, in addition to a large number of University students in its various branches who are unable to provide these devices.
Dr. Salama Al Rahoomi, Dean of Women's Student Affairs, during her handing over to a number of devices for students residing in the dorms, and in the presence of the Female Student Dormitory Section, stressed the importance of these devices in helping students to follow their lectures and take exams remotely, in light of the precautionary measures that the University is taking to reduce the spread of the COVID-19, and many students are unable to purchase these devices currently.
For his part, Abdullah Sultan Bin Khadim, Executive Director of the Sharjah Charity International, stated that the Charity's support for students of the University of Sharjah who are not able to buy computers to benefit from the distance learning initiative comes within the framework of the project to support students of science, which includes students in basic and secondary education stages and extends to include struggling University students, especially those from other countries. With the current circumstance that the country and the whole world are going through from the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic and the precautionary measures taken by the competent authorities, including enabling the distance learning initiative, the Charity coordinated with the University of Sharjah to count the number of students who are unable to buy computers and the Charity was able to provide material support to the University to buy computers for students, enabling them to continue their academic year and similar to their colleagues.
For his part, His Excellency Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the Office of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, member of the Board of Trustees of the Al Maktoum Foundation, affirmed the continuous keenness of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum to support the educational system and university students, and enable them to obtain education in these exceptional circumstances by fulfilling the needs of students to support their academic career and enhance their success and ability to overcome any obstacles facing their educational achievement.
Also, His Excellency Dr. Khaled Abdel-Wahab Al-Khaja, Executive Director of the International Humanitarian and Charity Organization, affirmed that the Organization, under the current circumstances, is keen to provide all forms of support to students and learners at various educational levels, and lift the burden on many families who are unable to provide the requirements of the distance learning process, as well as work to help students to maintain their continuity in the educational process. This comes within the Organization's strategies and priorities to support the educational field, especially in such circumstances, as childhood and education are among its top concerns.
In turn, the University students who were handed over the computer praised the University's role in helping them and creating all the appropriate conditions for education, thanking the Administration for that contribution, noting that they were facing some difficulties in following the lectures in addition to the ease of taking the next exam, which will be done remotely.
