South Korean Delegation Visits University of Sharjah to Enhance Cooperation Opportunities

His Excellency, Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UoS), welcomed His Excellency, Chun Byongkeuk, the First Vice Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in South Korea, along with his accompanying delegation. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the delegation’s visit to the Emirate of Sharjah and was part of the activities of the Sharjah International Book Fair, organized in coordination with the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah. The meeting was attended by Sheikha Rouda AlQasimi from the Cultural Exchange Department, during which the University and the delegation discussed opportunities for scientific and academic cooperation, with a particular emphasis on teaching Arabic language to non-native speakers. The delegation also had the opportunity to tour various scientific facilities at the University.

The UoS Chancellor highlighted the University's commitment to enhancing scientific cooperation with international academic institutions, with the support and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah. The Chancellor also addressed the University’s achievements at the local, regional and international levels.He mentioned that the University offers 127 diverse academic programs, including 50 Master’s,17 Doctorate, 3 Graduate Diploma, and 57 Bachelor programs. The University currently ranks 61st internationally for its study citations and research published by its faculty members. The University also advanced to rank as the 45th best university in Asia and 44th in the ranking of young universities worldwide. The Chancellor expressed the University’s readiness to engage in cooperation and partnership agreements with Korean universities and academic institutions.

Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Executive Chairman of the Department of Government Relations, emphasized the importance of academic cooperation between the Emirate of Sharjah and the Republic of South Korea. He described this cooperation as a pioneering step that strengthen ties and offers opportunities to develop economic relations with South Korea, known for its developed and innovative economy. He further noted that this cooperation aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, aiming to enhance Sharjah’s relations with various countries around the world and achieve integration and diversity in education, culture, economy, and trade. It represents a cultural platform that contributes to spreading knowledge, innovation and creativity among our youth by exploring a culture rich in history, arts and advanced sciences.

H.E. Chun Byongkeuk, expressed his happiness at visiting the University of Sharjah, which he described as a prestigious university. He emphasized the potential for joint cooperation, including teaching the Arabic and Korean languages, exchanging students and sharing research experiences.The meeting was attended by Prof. Youssef Al Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, Mr. Shihab Alhammadi, Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor for Student and Branch Affairs, Mr. Majid Al-Jarwan, Vice Chancellor for Public Relations, and Mr. Ali Rashid Alketbi from the International Relations and Research Section at the Department of Government Relations.
