SAASST at UOS Observes Ramadan Crescent
On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Science and Technology (SAASST) of the University of Sharjah (UOS), organized an open house activity to observe Ramadan crescent at the Sharjah Optical Observatory (SOO). The aim of the event was to explain to the attendees the accurate ways of spotting and observing the new crescents. A number of the general public in addition to experts in astronomy and space sciences and students attended the event which was organized by SAASST team.
During the event, Prof. Mohamed Sumeran, Vice Dean of College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, UOS, delivered a scientific lecture, in which he highlighted the importance of the holy month, and discussed the criteria of accepting crescents observations. For his part, Prof. Mashhoor Al Wardat, Professor of Astrophysics, UOS, and Director of Academic Affairs, SAASST, explained how to sight Ramadan crescent and how it will move during the next days.
