SAASST Organizes “High Energy Astrophysics” Workshop
Within the framework of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) at the University of Sharjah (UOS) to enhance knowledge and awareness of astronomical concepts related to the Earth, Sun, stars, galaxies, and astrophysics, SAASST organized High Energy Astrophysics workshop, in the presence of several researchers, students, and astronomy and space sciences enthusiasts.
The workshop consisted of several hands-on applications and lectures, in which Prof. Ilias Fernini, Director of the SAASST Space Sciences Department, delivered a presentation about Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and the Supermassive Black Holes. He discussed the spectra of galaxies and types of Seyfert Galaxies, as well as highlighted the Cosmic Jets, Radio Lobes, and Radio Galaxies. Dr. Antonios Manousakis, Assistant Professor of Astrophysics, UOS, introduced X-Ray astronomy, the electromagnetic spectrum and the sources of X-Ray emission, the results from several radiative processes .For her part, Ms. Maryam Al-Qasimi, Research Assistant at the High Energy Astrophysics Laboratory, discussed stellar formation, evolution, and the origin of compact objects, as well as discussed the Hertzsprung-Russell (HR) diagram. Ms. Noora Al-Ameri, Research Assistant from the same lab, explained the different types of X-ray binaries, accretion disks, and neutron stars.
