Organized by the University Sustainability Office A Workshop on Protecting the Spine
Within the framework of the efforts made by the Sustainability Office at the University of Sharjah to provide a sustainable work environment in the University through the organization of several training workshops in various environmental and health fields, the Office in cooperation with the Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing Circle organized a Workshop on How to Protect the Spine. Dr. Fatima Hijazi, Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the College of Health Sciences, the workshop dealt with how to maintain the correct posture and care for back safety, and dealt with the relationship of good posture with back pain, the correct habits and positions to protect the spine, chiropractic methods, as well as learning about the exercises and activities that need to be followed to avoid spine pain. The training workshop - which received a large turnout from faculty and staff members and University students - provided a number of practical tips and advice that everyone should take as a sustainable lifestyle to preserve the general health of the body, including those related to the behavior of a person in his public life such as the way to walk, sit and use shoes as well as appropriate exercise and sports activities. It also included elements related to the nature of work, office equipment and use of computers for long and continuous periods, and carrying weight in a wrong way.
For his part, Dr. Imad Alsyouf, Director of the Sustainability Office at the University of Sharjah, stressed the importance of this workshop in preserving human health and providing a healthy and sustainable work environment in the University of Sharjah. He also stressed the importance of working to implement all the recommendations presented by the attendees, and working to provide devices and equipment that help everyone take care of their health.
