Record Numbers Of Students Join University Of Sharjah

Record numbers of high school students have accepted places at the University of Sharjah this year, according to official figures.

Academic year 2023-2024 will enter university history as it saw an unprecedented number of students heading for the university, Ms. Aisha Bukhater, Director of Admission said.

Ms. Reem Al-Hashmi, Director of Registration Department, noted that 4,468 students were enrolled this year, comprising 24 percent of the current student population of 18,440.

These figures show rising numbers of admissions from the United Arab Emirates and countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the larger Middle East to the diverse colleges and programs the university offers.

The rising demand for places at the university is testimony of its standing and reputation in the Gulf region and beyond as 12% of the freshers come from foreign countries like Kuwait, Syria, Jordan India, France, Bangladesh, Russia, Philippines, Germany, among others.

Registration Department statistics show that foreign students who headed for the university this year come from 60 countries.

Overall, the foreign student population at the university represents 80 different nationalities, turning the campus into a colorful melting pot.

The figures also reveal continuing rise in female student population. There are more female than male students at the university. In fact, female student population percentage is almost double that of the male population.

According to official statistics female students comprise 65% of the whole student population, with male students at 35%.​
