Marathon Raises Healthy Living Awareness

The Deanship of Student Affairs and the Sustainability Office has organized a marathon for students and the larger community of the city of Sharjah to raise awareness of developing healthy habits.

It is the university's 25th Open Marathon taking place within the campus with its spacious gardens, lush flowers, domed buildings and decorative sculptured designs drawing on Islamic architecture.

The marathon, which took place on 24 Jan 2023, is one of numerous activities the university organizes as part of efforts to get the community engaged in its programs.

Local community members, Sharjah schools, and University staff and faculty, as well as students took part in the marathon.

The marathon is an educational activity which also aims at generating an understanding of the importance of sports to mental and physical health and in disease prevention.

The marathon is a big event for the city of Sharjah, home to more than 1.2 million people.

There are five tracks for the marathon in which five categories of people take part.

The first groups comprise people of determination on manual chairs who run for a distance of 1000 meters.

There is a special track for women of all ages and children up to 15 years of age. The track allocated for them runs for 1100 meters.

Men aged 50 years and over run for a distance of 2000 meters

Men aged 31-49 run over a track that is 2500 meters long.

The longest marathon track is allocated for young male people aged between 16-30. It extends for 3000 meters.

The university awarded the first five winners from each category.
