Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy

Professor Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy is a renowned scientist and researcher in the fields of astronomy and space sciences and a prominent leader in education. He is the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UOS), Director General and Founder of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), and President of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS). He received a BSc in Physics from the University of Baghdad, followed by an MS in Astronomy and a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Manchester in the U.K. He is the founder of seven (7) observatories and space centers in various countries, such as Iraq, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates, including SAASST, which he founded in 2015. In addition to his current positions, he has held numerous senior-level administrative positions, such as UOS Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean of the Institute of Astronomy and Space Science at Al al-Bayt University (IASS) in Jordan, and Chairman of the Physics Department at UAE University (UAEU).

He is widely recognized on a global scale for his significant contributions to the fields of applied physics, astronomy, and space sciences. He has imparted extensive knowledge by teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses and supervising over 50 MSc and PhD theses. He has conducted groundbreaking research into the correlation between Quranic verses and scientific discoveries in the fields of astronomy and space sciences. He has authored more than 35 books in the fields of astronomy, space sciences, and education, published over 800 scientific articles in newspapers, magazines, and journals, and refereed over 130 publications in high tier journals. He has served as the chief/associate editor for over 10 journals and edited numerous books. Additionally, he has delivered keynote speeches at more than 250 national and international conferences, symposia, and workshops, including the esteemed International Astronomical Union (IAU) conference. He has also played a significant role in organizing more than 100 conferences and workshops at the national, regional, and international levels. Professor Al Naimiy’s exceptional contributions to the field of higher education, astronomy, and space sciences have earned him numerous prestigious awards, such as the NASA Plaque for Coordinator of the International Heliophysical Year (IHY 2007), the Khalifa Award for Education 2009/2010, and the 2009 IAU/UNESCO Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Success of the International Year of Astronomy.

 

Prof. Qutayba Hamid

Professor of Medicine, Vice Chancellor for Medical & Health Sciences Colleges,
and Dean of College of Medicine at the University of Sharjah.


Prof. Qutayba Hamid was until 2016 the Strauss chair of Respiratory Medicine and the Director of the Meakins Christie Institute at McGill University, Canada which is one of the beast universities in North America. Dr. Hamid has published over 550 scientific articles in prestigious international journals and has contributed more than 150 chapters and review articles. He is the editor of 2 textbooks for Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology and Respiratory Physiology. He has been a visiting professor worldwide at Universities in Japan, USA and Europe, Dr. Hamid has served in many advisory committees in Canada and the UAE. In addition to obtaining a PhD from the Imperial College, University of London, Dr Hamid is a member Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), London, UK, , Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCPC), Canada. Dr Hamid has received many awards including Best Clinical Scientist in Canada award, Distinguished Respiratory scientist award in the USA and was selected to be one of the very few respiratory clinicians to be a Fellow of Royal Society. He recently received Hamdan Bin Rashid Medical Prize. Dr Hamid is well known internationally for his research in the area of Asthma and COPD and recently in the areas of Covid–19 and many of his original research programs have been or in the process of been translated to clinical practice.

 

 

Dr. Salah Taher

Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs - University of Sharjah

Prior to his appointment as Vice Chancellor on July 2009, Dr. Salah Al Haj served as Director General of Sharjah Municipality during the years 2007-2009. Also Dr. Salah Al Haj served in many positions in the UAE that can be referred to as follows :-
Director of Center of Continuing Education &Community Services , UOS.
General Manager of Melaplast Factory , UAE.
Quality Engineer at Dubai Municipality/Construction Quality.
Dr. Salah Al Haj obtained bachelor of Science degree in mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder USA. He graduated from the University of Wollongong, Australia with a Masters degree in Business Administration. Also Dr. Salah Al Haj is a certified lead auditor for ISO9000 Quality Management System.

Dr. Salah Al Haj is an active member in many associations that deal with community service; training; Urban planning and Quality, some of these committees are:- Advisory committee/ Higher Colleges of Technology; Emirates Engineering association; GCC training ; Training network team; IEASTS for the UAE & the International Quality Association..

Dr. Salah Al Haj served as a board member in the following organizations:- Sharjah Transport Authority 2007-2009; Sharjah Urban Planning Council 2007-2009; Sharjah Infrastructure committee 2007-2009; Sharjah Economic Award Council 2007-current; and Vice Chairman of Sharjah Classic Car Museum & Club.

Also Dr. Salah Al Haj is the founder and chaired the Distinguished Employee Award Committee in the Government of Sharjah 2005-2007.

 

Prof. Nicholas Torres

Executive Director, The Network: Towards Unity For Health (TUFH)


Prof. Nicholas Torres (M.Ed.) works at the cross section between the private sector, government, and not-for-profits and aligns them toward collective social impact goals and public policy. Nick has over 20 years of experience in executive management. Nick founded and currently leads a social sector “think-tank” organization; and teaches at the University of Pennsylvania.

Nicholas Torres, M.Ed, has over 25 years of experience in executive management, Nicholas works at the cross section between the private sector, government, and not-for-profits to align them toward collective social impact and change public policy. Nicholas has led and founded multiple for-profit and not-for-profit social ventures that are driven both by social impact and financial sustainability measures. Some of his launched social ventures include charter schools, an early literacy technology platform; school-based health centers; and community-based satellite college sites.

Nicholas serves in the capacity of Chief Operations Officer for The Alliance for Health Equity. He provides governance, strategy, and financial support to The Network: Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) an official non state actor of WHO. He is also Co-Founder and manager of Social Innovations Partners which publishes the Social Innovations Journal and provides asynchronous courses on social innovation and collective impact to incubate and launch high impact social sector models and create system and policy change. He teaches Nonprofit Leadership, Social Policy, and Social Entrepreneurship at University of Pennsylvania.

 

Dr. Elsie Kiguli-Malwadde

Dr. Elsie is also the Director of the MEPI Coordinating Centre at The African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformation (ACHEST) - Kampala

June 2009 to July 2010 Dr Elsie Kiguli-Malwadde is the Director of the MEPI Coordinating Center at The African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformation (ACHEST). She had until December 2010 been an associate professor and head of the department of Radiology at the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University. She worked with Makerere University for 14 years. Apart from her radiology training she is a Fellow of the Foundation for the Advancement of Medical Education and Research (FAIMER). She also holds a Masters in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Makerere Mulago School of Public Health - Kampala

Dr Kiguli-Malwadde is a graduate of Makerere University where she received both her MBChB and Masters in Medicine in Radiology. She has been at the forefront of promoting and enhancing quality health professions education in Radiology, General Medicine, Medical Radiography, and other health professions within Uganda and has over 14 years of experience directly supervising academic medical research at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has been involved in Faculty committees responsible for curriculum development, medical and research ethics development, and developing ethical procedures for quality medical research in Radiology and other health professions' education. She has worked extensively with Mulago Hospital and Makerere University College of Health Sciences as a key member of various Faculty project teams involved in enhancing professional health education in Uganda and assessing training needs within the medical profession. She has published many journal articles in Radiology and Imaging, as well as in Medical Education, and has presented papers at many international workshops and conferences. She has been a Global Faculty discussant and advisor in Philadelphia (USA). She has been a member of the Faculty for the South African FAIMER Institute (SAFRI).

Dr Kiguli-Malwadde is also a founding member of many radiological societies including the Association of Radiologists of Uganda, Uganda Society for Advancement of Radiology and Imaging, Uganda Association of Sonographers, and Pan African Congress of Radiology and Imaging. She is also a member of other international societies.

Expertise Senior Lecturer, Department of Radiology DR ELSIE KIGULI MALWADDE is the Director Health Workforce Education and Development at ACHEST. She has an MBchB and MMed from Makerere University and an MscHealth Professions Education(MSCHPE) from Maastricht University Netherlands.

Gyne She previously worked as Associate Professor and head of department of Radiologyat theSchool of Medicine and Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MUKCHS). She is an Honorary Assoc Prof at MUKCHS and supports the MscHPE Program. She was the Director of the African Coordinating Centre for the Medical Partnership Initiative, a US government grant to 13 medical schools in 12 Countries in Africa.
