Bridging Programs
Admission Requirements for the Bridging Programs
A student with a Diploma or Extended Diploma may seek to bridge toward a bachelor degree in the same field in all university programs except the colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine. To qualify for admission the student must meet the following requirements
1. General requirements
- The acceptance to the bridging programs depends on the student meeting the admission requirements and the availability of seats in the program.
- The applicant must have obtained a secondary school certificate or its equivalent before getting a diploma. The applicant's grade average in the diploma will be calculated instead of her/his secondary school grades.
- Must have completed and graduated with a Recognized two-year academic diploma (72 credit hours) or an Extended academic diploma (90 credit hours) for three years accredited and equivalent by the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates.
- The University does not accept professional diploma certificates for continuing studies towards a bachelor's degree.
- Must satisfy the language proficiency requirements for the sought program.
- The student's CGPA in the Diploma or Extended Diploma must be 2.5 out of 4.0 or higher.
- Students are not allowed to transfer to any other degree program after admission, except to a similar or related field program of study after fulfilling the admission criteria of that similar or related program of study.
- Transfer of credits does not apply to students admitted under this policy.
- Satisfy additional requirements that may be specific to the college or program.
2. Conditional admission for students with CGPA 2.0-2.49:
Applicants with a CGPA of 2.0-2.49 may be admitted to a bachelor degree in the same field, provided that they fulfill the following conditions in addition to the general admission requirements:
- Applicants will be admitted conditionally for the first semester and must complete remedial courses as determined by College Committee. The total credit hours for remedial courses should not exceed 12.
- Students must register for all remedial courses in the first semester and pass them with a minimum grade of "C" or higher. Failure to pass all remedial courses with a minimum grade of "C" or higher will result in automatic academic dismissal from the program.
- After completing remedial courses, students must register for 9-12 credit hours in the following semester. Upon the College Dean's permission, students may register for up to 15 credit hours.
- Students must pass all courses with a minimum grade of "D" or higher. The UoS Courses Repeat policy is applicable.
- Students who are academically dismissed shall be banned from further admission to bachelor's degree programs at the University.
3. Special requirements for applicants to the College of Health Sciences (Nursing and Medical Diagnostic Imaging programs):
- The student must have successfully completed a Medical Diagnostic Imaging program (a Diploma or an Extended Diploma) with a CGPA of 2.5 or higher.
- The student must have successfully completed an Extended Diploma in Nursing with a CGPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Students with a CGPA of 2.0 or higher but less than 2.5 must register between 6-12 credit hours in the first semester. With the College Dean's permission, students may register for up to 13 credit hours.
- Students who fail to obtain a CGPA of 2.0 or higher in their first or subsequent semesters will be academically dismissed.
- Students must pass all courses with a minimum of a D or higher. Course repeat policy is applicable.
