Why Medical Diagnostic Imaging?

Established in 1998 by McMaster University of Canada, the University of Sharjah's Bachelor of Science in Medical Diagnostic Imaging (BSc.MDI) program trains students to work with a variety of imaging modalities, such as digital imaging systems, ultrasound (US), nuclear medicine (NM), computerized tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The curriculum provides three tracks: a four-year plan for high school graduates, and two- or three-year bridging tracks for diploma holders. The curriculum, which has been accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, consists of 137 credit hours and around 1080 hours of clinical practice at hospitals and diagnostic facilities in the United Arab Emirates. Graduates are competent for positions in medical equipment businesses as clinical specialists, radiologic technologists, instructors, administrators, and researchers.

The department's state-of-the-art laboratories enhance practical learning by offering a setting akin to a hospital. In addition to actively engaging in extracurricular and community service activities to increase medical imaging awareness, radiation safety, and radiology, many graduates seek advanced degrees in the UK, Australia, and Canada. Since its inception in 2001, the program has produced a number of highly qualified individuals for the healthcare sector.
