Ramadan Kareem
RAMADAN KAREEM is CFAD's latest exhibit of creative highlighting faculty's and students' contributions in celebration of the Holy month of Ramadan. The exhibit's sculptural pieces are colorful lantern-like objects each representing one or more nationalities calling the city Sharjah home. The concept is based on an actual population census, and delves into how Islamic patterns have evolved, showing their flexibility and endurance in an ever-changing world. Each of the nine pieces has its own story to tell. The uniqueness of the artwork stems from its eco-friendly mixed materials, like clay and recycled plastic filament, used in new ways brought to life through 3D printing. This choice of material is a nod to how sustainability and technology could work together in service of the future of art and design. The project is part of the collaborative research conducted by Dr. Iman Ibrahim (Associate Professor in Interior Design) and Dr. Karima Alshomely (Assistant Professor in Fine Arts). It was first exhibited at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization before moving to campus.
The exhibit greets visitors with artworks depicting “Ramadan Kareem" composed using students' own creative composition. It highlights the ongoing focus on Arabic Typography through the work of visual communication students under the supervision of Ms. Nada Abdallah (Assistant Professor in Visual Communication). Participating students include Badr Suhail Nageeb, Baraa Mohammad Farajallah, Fatima Mohamed Aljasmi, Hanin Fawzi Fayaad Jarrar, Latifa Jamal Sarbaz Alkokhardi, Mariam Ahmed Alsuwaidi, Mariyam Hassan Meghayt, Mohammad Ahmad Jaber, Moza Salim Alketbi and Shamma Mohamed Alhammadi. The College of Fine Arts and Design has come to rely on this studio's outcomes to nominate one representative design to greet the community on special occasions.
