Conversations With Samia Halaby
Sharjah Museums Authority in collaboration with the College of Fine Arts and Design hosted a panel discussion on campus with Palestinian-American artist Samia Halaby. The event was moderated by Sultan Al Qassemi, Founder of Barjeel Art Foundation, and included Curator Inass Yassin. Pioneer Arab artist Samia Halaby’s career spans over six decades and is “pivotal in studying and executing the concept of abstraction as well as deconstructing geometry and form.” She discussed her artistic journey beginning with her earlier works from the 60s, to the latest computer-based artwork. She also expanded on the Palestinian narrative in some of her documentary productions and the role artists play in recording historical events. Her current exhibit at the Sharjah Art Museum is part of the Lasting Impressions series focusing on prominent Arab artists who had a prolific career and left a lasting impression on the development and evolution of modern art in the Arab world.
