The University of Sharjah took Summer 2023 to prepare for the 1st Asian Universities Cup in Classic Powerlifting”, held on campus. A CFAD Interior Design team collaborated on the unique project and included Dr. Abdul Samad Alkhalidi (Assistant Professor in Interior Design) and students Mufeeda Mohideen, Haia Ziad Ali, Ladan Morteza, Haneen Mohamed, Hasti Ali Shahverdi and Sara Mohamed Awad. The team worked on renovating and branding the UoS Men’s Sports Center, including the main multipurpose hall and adjacent support facilities. According to Dr. Alkhalidi, the design concept of the 1620 m2 facility draws inspiration from the biomechanics of an athlete’s knees and embodies the strength, flexibility, and grace of the athlete during motion. The final design applied a split complementary color scheme with sports icons in the hall and monochromatic colors in other spaces. The project is part of our faculty’s continued efforts to engage students in community projects.
