Keeping our History Alive

Visual Communication students Rawdha Ali Bin Omair AlMheiri and Shamma Saeed AlQaydi produced the documentary “Keeping Our History Alive.” It was among seventy films selected for screening at the 3rd Almarmoom Film Festival, Dubai. The filmmakers noted that the documentary “explores the cultural significance of the Emirati handicraft Talli, featuring local artisans who are dedicated preserving this form of intangible cultural heritage from generation to generation and to showcase their techniques, stories, experience, artistic visions, and the importance of continuing this tradition. The documentary serves as a poignant reminder of the vital importance of sustaining the treasured Talli tradition for the future generations and is a powerful testament to the enduring power of art and tradition in shaping our collective identity and cultural heritage.” The documentary is a project completed for the “Narrative and Sequence” course under the supervision of Ms. Madiha Jamil (Lecturer in Visual Communication). Special appreciation to Ms. Sarah Al Khayal, an Emirati designer committed to contemporizing the craft of Talli, for being an inspiration and for encouraging the students.
