The Legal Nature of Website Addresses in the United Arab Emirates

As a result of the tremendous development in the world of the internet and the increase in the registration of electronic domain names, with many commercial, governmental, and charitable projects moving to benefit from these developments due to the ease of access that the internet provides to projects and the rapid and sustainable achievement of the desired benefits, legal regulations have worked to create a legal framework that governs electronic domain names. This framework defines the mechanism for their registration, renewal methods, reasons for their withdrawal, the means of transferring them, the procedures for disputes over them, and all other legal matters related to them, whether from a judicial or legal perspective. This particularly pertains to addressing their legal nature, whether from a jurisprudential or judicial viewpoint, which requires examining their specifics and clarifying their components to define them and clarify their purpose in order to achieve effective protection for them and ensure their independence from any other rights. This is instead of limiting the issue solely to their connection to trademarks. The treatment of this issue came in an analytical manner, taking into account the opinions of scholars, and clarifying the international and local legal and judicial consequences, in comparison with the cooperation of the United Arab Emirates.
