Why Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering?
The University of Sharjah's Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering aspires to be recognized both nationally and internationally for the outstanding caliber of its graduates and their research abilities. The department offers four undergraduate programs: a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Water Desalination Engineering and the newest one, a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronic and Robotics Engineering. The department also offers and MSc in Mechanical Engineering. The department mission is to prepare students for successful careers through high-quality education and research. These programs are painstakingly designed to satisfy the highest requirements of the global market as well as the UAE.
The Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program was founded in 2012. Students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program get a thorough grasp of force, motion, energy, and materials, equipping them with the skills necessary to develop and innovate. The curriculum encompasses several fields, including aerospace, automotive, robotics, energy and heating ventilating and air conditioning systems as well as material and manufacturing engineering . The Nuclear Engineering program was founded in 2011 as the only program of its type in the United Arab Emirates. The Nuclear Engineering program provides students with the knowledge and abilities to meet the world's energy demands while upholding sustainability and safety. In 2021, a new important program on Chemical and Water Desalination Engineering was founded. Students of this program have the option to concentrate on water desalination, a sector that is becoming more and more important in the area. Finally, starting from Fall 2024, the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department will start offering a program in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering. This is one of the most innovative and rapidly evolving engineering disciplines. It seamlessly integrates the essential theoretical foundations from mechanical, electrical, electronics, and computer engineering with the practical applications required to design, build, and control cutting-edge robotics and automation systems.
The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering is also offering an MSc in Mechanical Engineering. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Gulf countries (GC) have a huge opportunity for graduates in Mechanical Engineering due to the active infrastructure development and remarkable economic growth especially in the energy sector, construction sector, production of construction materials and metals; water treatment and desalination; as well as textile and food processing industries. The program will be able to generate new ideas and findings in Mechanical Engineering field to support the country's development.
The MSc in Mechanical Engineering provides in depth knowledge on the three tracks including Thermo-fluids and Water Desalination, Solid Mechanics, and Materials and Manufacturing. The addition of Water Desalination to the thermo-fluid track constitutes a unique aspect in this MSc program. The graduates of the program will be ready to embark on advanced regional problems, explore new findings and develop scientific discovery through modern scientific approaches to Mechanical Engineering in order to meet the challenges in solving tomorrow's issues.
With cutting-edge facilities, a committed staff, and a strong focus on experiential learning and research participation, the department creates an atmosphere that is favorable to academic success, creativity, and individual development. Graduates of these programs are prepared to take on challenging tasks and contribute significantly in a variety of industries, guaranteeing a better future for the city and the global community.
