Why Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management?

Founded in 2006, the Department of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM) at the University of Sharjah offers a B.Sc. degree in IEEM, along with M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering Management. The IEEM Department is one of the largest in the College of Engineering, currently enrolling over 330 B.Sc. students, 270 M.Sc. students, and 100 Ph.D. students.

The B.Sc. program stands out for its unique blend of engineering principles and business expertise, aimed at enhancing efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. Students can choose between a traditional Senior (Capstone) Design Project and a Co-op in Industry option, providing valuable real-world engineering experience. The B.Sc. program also includes a specialization in Industry 4.0, offering various certificates that equip students with cutting-edge skills and knowledge in the latest technological advancements.

Accredited by ABET in both Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, the IEEM Department is the first in the region to achieve this dual accreditation, with coursework and research recognized by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Students benefit from state-of-the-art labs such as the Smart Manufacturing Lab, Simulation Lab, and Advanced Ergonomics Lab, and they learn from faculty members who are experienced industry professionals.

Emphasizing hands-on learning through internships, professional competitions, and cooperative learning strategies, the IEEM Department is committed to providing high-quality teaching, innovative research, and strong industry interaction. This approach aims to develop future leaders equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in their careers. The IEEM Department has a robust alumni network that includes graduates working for prestigious companies like IBM, ADCO, Samsung, Canon, EGA, and Emirates Group.
