Audiology and Speech Language Pathology is a healthcare profession specializing in identifying, diagnosing, and rehabilitative services for hearing and speech disorders. The program is designed to equip students with fundamental academic knowledge, clinical skills, and reflective practices, preparing them to excel in the fields of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. What You Will Learn

Upon the successful completion of the program, Audiology and Speech Language Pathology graduates should be able to:

This course aims to enable students to understand and communicate with the language used in these health-related fields by familiarizing them with the medical terminology in their respective fields. Special attention will be given to teaching students the principles of the construction of medical terms. Academic vocabulary and relevant grammatical structures will be highlighted and practiced. Oral communication skills will be developed through encouraging students to make short oral presentations. The course includes the introduction, principles, procedures, and interpretation of Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP) principles, encompassing electrocochleography (EcochG), auditory brainstem response (ABR) and higher-order AEPs such as middle and late latency responses (MLR and LLR), Auditory Steady state response (ASSR) and other Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP) – P300, MMN. The lab components include training students to independently run the tests and interpret the results.

Students will work with patients presenting a variety of hearing disorders, including but not limited to pediatric audiology cases, applying the knowledge they have gained throughout the program. This clinical course focuses on Audiology component with students assigned to clinical areas aligned with courses 0508362, 0508353, 0508255, and 0508263. Students are expected to conduct assessments, develop management plans, and write formal reports, integrating their knowledge from the program. Students will perform Speech Language, swallowing assessments, develop individualized management plans, and create detailed clinical reports by integrating evidence-based practices. Students will be guided by clinical educators, to refine their critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, ensuring their readiness for the field of Speech Language Pathology.

Graduates of the B.Sc. ASLP program will have opportunities in diverse healthcare settings. It includes working in hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitative audiology. They can also function in other roles such as communication disorders specialists, speech therapists, and professionals in the hearing aid and cochlear implants industry. Graduates can pursue advanced studies, such as a postgraduate degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in Audiology and Communication Disorders, allowing them to actively engage in research activities.
