COURSE DESCRIPTION: |
Planning Education Programs |
To examine curriculum designs that incorporate academic staff, students, and other stakeholder needs. The principles of outcomes-based education will be examined and how this impact on the design of modules, units and lessons. It will also emphasize for meeting diverse student needs and developing a global perspective in planning programs. |
Teaching and Learning Methods |
To examine teaching and learning methods/strategies, which are evidence-based, and which encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, preparing them for lifelong, self-directed learning. |
Supervising Healthcare Professionals |
To explore teaching and supervising in the clinical setting and the stages involved in moving from novice to expert. The module also explores the role of the supervisor/mentor including supervision, 360-degree assessment in real authentic clinical settings, giving constructive feedback and counseling. The module will examine stress in the workplace, job management, and graduate/ student support matters. |
Learner Assessment in Healthcare |
To explore assessment principles, methods and practices and their Compatibility with educational objectives to promote learning. Aspects such as reliability, validity; feasibility; standard setting and examiner training will be explored. Constructing effective tests and assessing competence, using tools such as written tests, clinical performance assessments, and student portfolios will be examined. |
Leadership in Health Professions Education |
To focus on the important understanding of the various leadership and governance styles necessary to support and sustain curriculum reform in the health education setting. |
Research and Evaluation |
To critically appraise research and evaluation literature of health professions' education before formulating research and evaluation questions for a program that they are involved in teaching. |
