General Admission Requirements
The University of Sharjah accepts students who are academically qualified and behaviorally distinguished, regardless of their nationality, color, religion, or disability.
All applicants must satisfy the following basic admission requirements:
- Completion of secondary education or an equivalent level with the required average attained no earlier than three years prior to joining the University. Applicants to the College of Medicine and Dental Medicine need to have finished their secondary education no more than one year previously.
- The applicant should not have been expelled from the UoS or any other institution for academic or disciplinary reasons.
- The applicant should be medically, physically, and mentally fit, and must provide evidence of immunization against major blood-borne viral infections in accordance with the requirements for their major.
- Applicants should indicate their order of preference for majors on the application form.
- Admitted students are allocated to the University's colleges within the limits of the approved number of seats for each college, based on the capacity of each program. This is done according to their preferences and their grades. Admission to the University of Sharjah is competitive, with priority given to citizens of the UAE and students with high secondary school grades.
- Applicants should complete and submit the application form and required documents to the Admissions Department by the stated deadlines, and pay the application fee of AED 360.
- Meeting the secondary education grade requirements, fulfilling other admission requirements, submitting the application, paying the application fee, and receiving an ID number does not guarantee admission to the University. Students are required to pay a reservation fee after meeting specific criteria on a competitive basis, in accordance with University policy. Student reservation fees are nonrefundable if the student withdraws or does not enroll in the University, and are applied toward tuition fees if the student enrolls in their program.
- Applicants to the Colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine pay a 1500 AED fee for their applications to be considered as part of the admissions competitive process. This fee is non-refundable if the applicant is rejected or withdraws from the university.
- Applicants who are still enrolled in secondary school will receive conditional admission until their final results are submitted. Meeting the required conditions and the minimum grade based on competitive standards is mandatory.
- Students will not be issued an ID or allowed to register in courses unless the admission file is complete.
- Students accepted conditionally will be given a specific period of time according to the related undertaking, and they must fulfill the conditional admission requirements to continue studying at the university.
- Professional diploma certification are not acceptable for admission into undergraduate programs.
Academic Qualifications
- A student applying to join UoS must have completed their secondary education and had at least 12 years of schooling prior to the date of application.
- The applicant should have graduated from a school licensed and recognized by the Ministry of Education in the UAE, and must submit a certified copy of the secondary school certificate or its equivalent, with a transcript certified by the school and the Ministry of Education or the Education Zone in the UAE.
- This is incomprehensible. Rewrite adding semi-colons. “Applicants who attended school outside the UAE must have graduated from a school recognized by the country's official education authority. The submitted certificates must be authenticated in the following order: the education authority in the country of study (e.g., Ministry of Education, Boards of Education, or British Council); the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country of study; the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in that country or the embassy of the country in the UAE; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

School Systems and Certificates
General Secondary School Certificates
Holders of secondary school certificates or their equivalent:
- Students who have obtained a secondary school completion certificate from schools inside the country that follow the educational system of the Ministry of Education, or students who have high school certificates or their equivalent from a recognized school inside or outside the country can apply to join the university in one of its colleges, in accordance with the conditions and criteria determined by the university, and within the limits of its capacity.
- Applicants must have received at least 70% in their final secondary school grades (Elite, Advanced, Scientific, General, or Applied tracks) to join the Colleges of Sharia and Islamic Studies; Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Public Policy; Business Administration; Fine Arts and Design; Communication; and the Computing and Informatics program (Business Information System).
- Applicants must have obtained no less than 75% in their final grades (Elite, Advanced, Scientific, General or Applied tracks) to join the College of Law.
- Applicants must have achieved at least 70% (Elite, Advanced, or Scientific, General track) to be admitted to the College of Sciences and College of Computing and Informatics (Computer Science, Information Technology-Multimedia, and Biomedical Informatics).
- For the College of Engineering, applicants must achieve a minimum of 75% (Elite, Advanced, or Scientific tracks) or 85% (General track) in their final grades.
- For admission to Cybersecurity Engineering and Computer Engineering at the College of Computing and Informatics, the required grade is 75% (Elite, Advanced, or Scientific tracks) or 85% (General track) in their final grades.
- To join the College of Health Sciences, applicants need a minimum grade of 75% (Elite, Advanced, or Scientific tracks) or 85% (General track with qualifying program except for Environmental Health Sciences and Healthcare Management Programs).
- For the College of Pharmacy, the minimum required grade is 85% (Elite, Advanced, or Scientific tracks).
- For the College of Dentistry, applicants must obtain at least 85% (Elite, Advanced, or Scientific tracks).
- For admission to the College of Medicine, a grade of at least 95% (Elite, Advanced, or Scientific tracks) is required.
High School Diploma Certificates
An applicant who holds a high school diploma (American system) or its equivalent may be admitted to one of the University of Sharjah’s programs subject to meeting the following conditions:
- The student has completed 12 years of study.
- The certificate is recognized and has received an equivalency certificate by the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
- The student must have studied 6 courses in the fields of mathematics, sciences, social studies, and languages with English as the language of instruction.
- The Diploma study track (Literature or Science) is determined on the basis of the courses studied in the 12th year (Two Science and one Mathematics subjects constitute a Science Track).
Applicants to the Medical Colleges (Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Pharmacy)
- Must have completed two courses of biology, two courses of chemistry, and at least one course in physics in the high school levels (from grade 9 till grade 12) and attained a grade of (B) or higher in biology or chemistry in the 12th year.
- For schools that follows the credit hours system, students must study chemistry, biology, and physics (full credit hour) distributed in high school levels at least once, and the student must attain a grade of at least (B) or above in biology or chemistry in grade 12 certificate.
- In addition, please note that admission to these colleges is based on academic competition, and priority is given for students with the highest average grades after fulfilling the competitive admission requirements.
Applicants with British Certificates (IGCSE, GCSE, GCE):
Applicants with British Certificates (IGCSE, GCSE, GCE) may be admitted upon meeting the following conditions:
- The student has completed successfully grade 12 (year 13) by the time she/he has finished secondary education and must provide proof thereof.
- The certificate is recognized and equivalent by the ministry of education in the UAE
- The student grade percentage will be calculated based on special criteria specified by the University of Sharjah, and the student must fulfill the required average grade specified for admission to the desired program. For more information please click here.
- The highest 7 grades obtained will be considered as follows:

A minimum grade of C in 5 O-Level subjects, and a minimum grade of D in 2 AS-Level subjects or
-
A minimum grade of C in 6 O-Level subjects, and a minimum grade of E in one A-Level subject.

- The courses should cover at least four areas of study: mathematics, sciences, social studies, fine arts and design, and languages.
- For an applicant to be considered as a graduate of the science track in secondary education she/he must have successfully studied at least 2 science and one mathematics subjects distributed among O-Level and AS-Level or A-Level.
- UoS may award up to (12) credits for students who have successfully achieved a grade of (C) or higher in specific A-Level subjects, provided that he/she takes substitute courses from the authorized elective courses as befits the student’s study plan (except for the colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine).
Applicants to the Colleges of Medicine, Dental Medicine, or Pharmacy:
- Must have taken chemistry and biology courses at the O-Level, AS-Level or A-Level and attained at least a minimum grade of B at the AS-Level or a C at the A-Level in one of these subjects.
- In addition, please note that the admission to these Colleges is based on academic competition, and the priority is given for the highest averages and who fulfilled the competition requirement.
International Baccalaureate Certificates (IB)
An applicant who holds the International Baccalaureate Certificate may be admitted upon meeting the following conditions:
- The student must have completed at least 12 years of study and must submit official documentation to that effect.
- IB Diploma must have been awarded and equivalent according to the IB Board requirements.
- The diploma must be authenticated by the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
- The student must have successfully completed at least 6 subjects during secondary school distributed over four subject areas: mathematics, sciences, social studies and humanities, and languages.
- The 6 subjects must include at least three subjects at the higher level (HL).
- The student must have scored a total of no less than 24 out of 45 points, and the student grade average will be determined by this score.
- IB's study track (whether literary or science) is determined by the subjects studied. For the IB to be counted as "scientific track", the student must have studied at least two science subjects and one mathematics subject.
- The University may award up to (12) credit hours for students who have successfully achieved a grade of (5) or higher in specific high - level (HL) subjects, provided that he/she takes substitute courses instead from the authorized elective courses according to the student study plan (except for the colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine).
Students applying for the Colleges of Medicine, Dental Medicine or Pharmacy
- Must have studied chemistry and biology, and must have achieved a minimum grade of (5) in Higher Level biology or chemistry in the IB Diploma.
- In addition , please note that the admission to these colleges is based on academic competition, and the priority is given for the highest averages and who fulfilled the competition requirement.
Indian/Pakistani Board Certificates
Students Holding an Indian or Pakistani board certificate or its equivalent:
- Completion of 12 years of study and obtaining Higher/Senior Secondary Certificate.
- Fulfilling the required average for the desired major program.
- The certificate must be recognized and equivalent by the Ministry of Education in UAE.
- To join the scientific majors: Completing scientific or pre-engineering track at the higher/ senior secondary level.
- Submitting the graduation certificate and list of school transcript of grades (10+12) certified by the concerned authorities.
To join Colleges of Medicine, Dental Medicine, or Pharmacy:
- Completing scientific or Pre-medical track at the higher/senior secondary Level, and the subjects must include biology and chemistry.
- In addition, please note that the admission to these colleges is based on academic competition, and the priority is given for the highest averages and who fulfilled the competition requirement.
Special Admissions Requirements for the College of Medicine and College of Dental Medicine
In addition to fulfilling the University’s admissions requirements, applicants to the colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine are required to meet the following additional conditions:
A. The Criteria for entering the Competition of the Medicine and Dental Medicine Colleges:
- Admission to the College of Medicine is limited to students who have obtained their secondary education certificate from the United Arab Emirates.
- All students applying to join the colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine will be subject to further selection criteria based on an academic competition held amongst applicants determined by the regulations of the University.
- Students must pay 1500 AED to enter the competition process. This amount is non-refundable in any case: (acceptance, non-acceptance, withdrawal, or non-attendance.,). In case of acceptance, the fee is considered a first installment of tuition fees.
B. Confirmation of admission for Medicine and Dental Medicine Colleges:
- All new students accepted in colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine should pay the tuition fees within a maximum period of one week after the announcement of their acceptance.
- Students who do not enroll for the semester in which they were admitted will be denied admission to the University and will not receive a refund of any fees paid.
C. Minimum requirements for promotion to the first year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery or Bachelor of Dental Surgery:
In order for a student of these programs to be promoted to Year one she/he must:

- successfully complete the Foundation Year.
- receive a minimum cumulative GPA of (2.5) out of (4.0).
- receive a minimum cumulative GPA of (2.5) in chemistry and biology and their respective labs in the first and second levels.
- Applicants who meet the above conditions are subject to competition based on available seats in the two colleges, which are determined annually in accordance with each college's capacity. Students with the highest cumulative GPAs and the highest grades in chemistry 1 and 2, as well as biology 1 and 2 and their laboratories, will be promoted to the first year.
Important General Notes
- Students shall fill in the application form personally, and be responsible for the accuracy of the information filled therein. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Students are responsible for completing all admission procedures by the specified deadlines, in accordance with the instructions of the Admissions Office as announced in the academic calendar. The University is not responsible for applications not completed by students on time. All students are required to visit the University’s website (www.sharjah.ac.ae) to learn about the dates and locations of the admission exams, TOEFL test, and personal interviews as well as to see their results.
- Reservation seat fees are nonrefundable if the student withdraws or does not enroll in the University, and are applied toward tuition fees if the student enrolls in his/her program.
- Admission is granted for the semester to which the student is applying. A student’s admission will be canceled if the student does not enroll in the same semester as when the application has been submitted.
- New students are permitted to postpone admission for a maximum of one semester for all programs after paying the required fees and submitting the required form to the Admission Office.
- Paragraph (5) applies to all the University programs except for programs in the Colleges of Medicine and Dental Medicine, which do not allow postponement of admission.
- The University does not accept the submission of the original High School Certificate. Students are required to provide copies certified by the proper authorities.
- All documents submitted for admission to the University are considered the property of the University. Students are not permitted to request any documents from their personal file once submitted to a staff member.
- The University is not responsible for scholarship applications. Students are required to contact sponsors on their own.
- Applications received after the admission period will not be considered.
- The University reserves the right to increase the fees every year.
- Students Shall Abide by All Other University Requirements.

- Copy of student passport (valid).
- Copy of UAE National Family Registry for local students.
- Copy of residence visa for non-local students (valid).
- Certified copy of Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent.
- A recent passport-size colored photograph.
- Health Fitness Certificate. The test must be done in university's student clinic or any governmental authority in the UAE. Click here to download the form (Please write the student's name and University ID number and attach a picture on the form).
- Copy of Good Conduct Certificate (valid).
- Copy of Birth Certificate.
- Copy of UAE National Identity Card (valid).
- Copy of mother's passport.
- AED 360 cash application fees (Non-refundable).
- Students are required to upload a copy of their English Language Proficiency Certificate (TOEFL, iBT, IELTS, or PTE) through the admission e-service link for verification by the Language Institute before the course registration period.
Additional Requirements For Students Obtaining Foreign Certificates
- Document proving that the student completed 12 years of school.
- Certified copy of grades 10,11, 12 certificates and Graduation certificate ( Diploma ).
- Equivalent certificate from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
- Students who obtained certificates from outside the UAE must provide a document proving that the High School Certificate is accepted by government universities in the country from which the certificate was obtained, and equivalent certificate from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
Additional Requirements For Bridging Programs Students
- Certified copy of the Diploma certificate.
- Certified copy of the transcript.
- Students who had received the Diploma from outside the UAE or from private institutes within the country must attain an equivalent certificate for the Diploma from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
Additional Requirements For Transfer Students
- Certified copy of the official transcript after withdrawing from the previous institution.
- Detailed course descriptions certified by the previous university.
- Students transferring from an institution outside the UAE must also submit a letter of accreditation from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
- A letter clarifies the cumulative GPA and the academic status of the student at his/ her previous university.
Additional Requirements For UAE Local Male Students
National service completion letter or no objection to complete the study from the Authority of National Service and Reserve.
Additional Requirements For Kuwait Students
No objection letter from the Consulate General of the State of Kuwait - Cultural Office in UAE specifying the program the student is allowed to take at the University of Sharjah.
Additional Requirements For Visiting Students
Approval letter from student's home university with a list of courses allowed to be taken at the University of Sharjah in the relevant semester.
Additional Requirements For Students Graduated From Outside UAE
Students holding certificates issued from outside the UAE have to submit an equivalency certificate (From UAE ministry of education)
Important Notes
- Certificates issued from inside the country must be authenticated from the educational institution in which the student studied in the country, and the Ministry of Education or the Educational Zoon.
- Certificates issued from outside the country must be authenticated by the official educational authority in the country of study (such as: the Ministry of Education, Boards of Education, the British Council ...), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the country of study, or the Embassy of the Country in the UAE, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

Admission Tests for New Students
General Information
1.English Language Proficiency Test
Upon admission to UoS and prior to course registration, all students admitted to UoS (new, transfer and bridging) must demonstrate a level of English proficiency consistent with the requirement of their college. Students can choose one of the alternative exams listed below for proof of proficiency.
The certificate must be submitted to the Admission department through their Admission Services Portal to be reviewed and approved by the English Language Center at the UoS.
Important Notes
- The high school grades mentioned are those of the UAE educational curriculum (Advanced Track) or their equivalents as per the framework approved by the Ministry of Education.
- Certificates older than two years are not accepted.

Students who achieve a score of 5.5 in the IELTS test are exempted from remedial skill courses.

Students who couldn't obtain the required score in any of the above listed English Proficiency tests will be enrolled in an "Intensive English Program" course, in which their English level will be determined by the result of their English proficiency test. All students are placed in the Intensive English program with a recognized Language qualification.
- Students in the Intensive English Program must obtain the required score in one of the above-mentioned tests to enter in the Major directly .
- Students accepted in the College of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, or Health Sciences are not allowed to register for the program courses until they obtain a score of "5.0" in each IELTS skill or pass the relevant skill course in the Languages Institute at UoS.
- Students must submit the original English language proficiency certificate to the Languages Institute at UoS for verification and approval.
- The UoS reserves the right to require students to attend an interview in the Languages Institute. Students may be required to take a further in-house test to ensure their scores are consistent with their English Language proficiency.

Online Application Steps:
- Fill out the online application form, upload the required documents, submit the application, and pay the non-refundable application fee. To view the online application guide, click here.
- An email will be sent to the applicants confirming their admission status within 3-7 working days.
- Apply for the admission tests according to the requirements of the college or program. To view the admission tests
- Applicants nominated for acceptance need to reserve their seats by paying 12000 AED which is applied toward tuition fees if the student enrolls in the program. If the student withdraws or does not enroll in the University, an amount of 3000 AED will be non-refundable .
- Applicants must complete the required documents after paying the seat reservation fee which includes attested copies of high school certificates, colored personal photos, original certificates of English language proficiency tests (e.g.: IELTS, TOEFL), receiving the medical fitness form or any additional documents required from the Admissions Department. - Pay the remaining tuition fees - if any - in accordance with the university's financial instructions.
