Overview and Mission:
Welcome to the Center for Teaching Arabic to Non-Arabic Speakers at the University of Sharjah.
The Center for Teaching Arabic to Non-Arabic Speakers is a pioneering center dedicated to widening knowledge of Arabic language and culture at the national and regional levels. As a leading institution in the UAE, our center stands at the forefront of Arabic language education, determined to create a dynamic learning environment that allows learners to plunge themselves in the Arabic authentic language and cultural context.
By promoting a deep understanding and awareness for the Arabic language among non-Arabic Speakers, we aim to equip learners with the skills and knowledge to succeed in an interconnected community. This reflects the University of Sharjah's objective to provide Arabic language as a means of communication between Arabs and non-Arabic Speakers, and as a repository of the unique Arab Islamic heritage.
Our Arabic courses for Non-Arabic Speakers adhere to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), providing internationally recognized standards for teaching and assessing Arabic language skills. This framework enables learners to progress through well-defined levels, ensuring a structured and effective learning experience.
Objectives and services:
The center aims to:
- Teach Arabic to non-native speakers and enable them to master Arabic sufficiently for daily communication within and outside the University, over a study period determined by a placement test
- Organize specially designed courses to teach Arabic to diplomats and other professionals working in the public and private sectors
- Develop and implement Arabic language teaching programs for non-native speakers, informed by pedagogical methodologies specific to teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers and utilize modern language teaching technologies
- Establish connections with similar institutions working in this field for the purpose of cooperation and exchange of expertise
- Conduct training courses for Arabic language teachers who wish to work in this field within the United Arab Emirates, preparing them to be pedagogically competent in this area

- Non-Arab students enrolled in the University of Sharjah
- Arab students with no or very limited proficiency in Arabic
- Non-Arab staff, administrators, and managers
- Members of non-Arab diplomatic corps
- Employees in the visual, audio, and/or written media and broadcasting in other languages
- Non-Arabic speaking researchers
- Expatriates in the UAE who wish to learn Arabic
