Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements for Ph.D. programs
- The student must hold a master’s degree with a minimum grade of “Very Good” (3.0 out of 4.0) and a bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of “Good” (2.5 out of 4.0) or equivalent from a university, college, or institute recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education.
- The student must meet the English language proficiency requirement as follows:
- Programs taught in English: A score of 550 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalent), 6 in IELTS, or 1400 in the EmSAT English exam must be obtained.
- Programs taught in Arabic (Ph.D. in Private Law, Public Law, and Applied Sociology): A score of 1100 in the EmSAT exam, 500 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalent), or 5.0 in IELTS must be obtained. For other Arabic programs, a score of 950 in the EmSAT exam, 450 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalent), or 4.5 in IELTS must be obtained.
- For programs that require a specific TOEFL score, the instructions provided by the Commission for Academic Accreditation must be followed.
Exemptions:
- Students whose native language is English and who studied a bachelor’s or master’s program in a country where English is the official language are exempt from the English language proficiency requirement.
- Students who graduated from a university where English is the language of instruction are also exempt from the English language proficiency requirement, provided they obtained a minimum score of 1400 in the EmSAT English exam, 500 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalent), or equivalent upon enrolling in the bachelor’s program and 550 points or equivalent upon joining the master’s program.
- Passing the personal interview.
- Submission of a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the authorities responsible for national service for male Emirati students.
- Submission of a letter of study approval from the Kuwaiti Embassy Cultural Office (for Kuwaiti students only).
- Submission of a People of Determination card (if applicable).
- If the student is employed, a letter from the employer stating that the student is currently working for this agency must be attach

The exam is offered only by the University of Sharjah, AMIDEAST Dubai, and the Abu Dhabi head offices.
- The University of Sharjah reserves the right to require students to attend an interview at the Language Institute. Students may also be required to take an additional in-house test to ensure their scores align with their English language proficiency.
- Individuals with foreign qualifications must provide a Certificate of Equivalency.
Admission Requirements for Master programs
- The student must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university with a CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00. Students with a CGPA between 2.5 and 2.99 may be admitted conditionally.
- The degree must be in a major that qualifies the student to study the master's program.
- Students must meet the English language proficiency requirement:
Students in programs taught in English: a score of 1400 in an EmSAT English exam, 550 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalence), or 6 in IELTS must be obtained. Students who have an EmSAT score of 1250 or its equivalent in another English proficiency standardized test accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation, such as TOEFL (ITP) with a score of 530 (or its equivalence), and IELTS with a score of 5.5 may be admitted, however, they must meet the following conditions:
- An EmSAT English score of 1400 or its equivalent must be obtained by the end of the first semester.
- A maximum of 6 credit hours (Master level) must be registered in the first semester, excluding intensive English language courses.
- A minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 must be obtained in the first 6 credit hours of the master program.
- Students in programs taught in Arabic and does not require a specific TOEFL score, they must study and pass an English language course in the first semester. If the student scores 950 in an EmSAT exam, 450 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalence), or 4.5 in IELTS, he/she shall be exempted from the course. For programs that set a TOEFL score, (like the master in Applied Sociology and Master in Law), The student must obtain a score of 950 in the EMSAT or 450 in the TOEFL ITP (or its equivalent), or 4.5 in the IELTS.
- Native speakers of English shall be exempted from the TOEFL Test if the language of instruction in their undergraduate studies was English. Also, Students who graduated from academic institutions that uses English as the primary medium of instruction, in bachelor studies, are exempted.
- Attachment of ‘no objection of study certificate’ from the authorities responsible for national service for male Emirati students (ages from 18 to 30 years old).
- Attachment of a letter of study approval from the Kuwait Embassy Cultural Office for Kuwaiti students only.
- Attachment of People of Determination card (if applicable).
- In case the student works in a certain place, please attach a letter from the employer stating that the student is working for this agency.

- The student must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university with a CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.
- The degree must be in a major that qualifies the student to study the postgraduate diploma program.
- Students in programs taught in English must obtain 550 on the TOEFL (PBT) (should be taken inside the university), 79 on the TOEFL (IBT) (outside the university), or 6 on IELTS (Academic).
- Passing the personal interview.
- Attachment of ‘no objection certificate’ from the authorities responsible for national service for male Emirati students.

Admission Tests For New Students in PhD
- The student must meet the English language proficiency (TOEFL) requirement, as follows:
- Students in programs taught in English: a score of 550 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalence), or 6 in IELTS, or 1400 in an EmSAT English exam must be obtained
- Students in programs taught in Arabic (PhD in Private Law, Public Law, and Applied Sociology, A score of 1100 in EmSAT exam, 500 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalence), or 5.0 in IELTS must be obtained. For other Arabic prgorams, A score of 950 in EmSAT exam, 450 in TOEFL (ITP) (or its equivalence), or 4.5 in IELTS must be obtained.
- For programs that requires a specific TOEFL score, the instructions provided by the Commission for Academic Accreditation shall be followed
Exemption:
- Students whose native language is English and studied a bachelor's or a master's program in a country where English is the official language shall be exempted from the English language proficiency requirement.

University of Sharjah Alumni
- Masters:
- 50% discount on the first-semester tuition fee.
- To maintain the discount in subsequent semesters, a term GPA of 3.4 or higher is required.
- Doctorate:
- 30% discount on the first-semester tuition fee.
- To maintain the discount in subsequent semesters, a term GPA of 3.6 or higher is required.

Research Assistant Scholarship

- Bachelors CGPA 3.60 and above (for Master students).
- Masters & Bachelors CGPA 3.60 and above (for PhD students).
- The Student should only work in the university and should not work somewhere else.
- Any Remedial courses are not covered.
- The Master and Ph.D. students are required to work 20h per week.
- (All is according to the Bylaws and Regulations of the University)
- The Concerned Department has the right to elect whom it sees fit for the scholarship
