Vision

The vision of the Center for Sustainable Energy and Power Systems (CSEPS) is to become the center of excellence in basic and applied renewable energy and power research, clean energy technology development and innovation; and to be the leader in the development of innovative renewable and clean energy research locally and globally.

 

Mission

The mission of the Center of Sustainable Energy and Power Systems (CSEPS) is to promote innovative research in the area of renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy storage, energy management, power systems and any related research on sustainable energy. The research center will develop multidisciplinary energy and power research program for a better understanding and the development of scientific and technological knowledge, clean energy technologies and products, strategies and methods for energy management and storage, the development of micro-grid power systems and contribute to the sustainable development of society.

 

Goals and Objectives

Contributing Toward community:

The Center for Sustainable Energy and Power Systems will interact with the community and serve the needs by:

  • Focusing on advanced applied energy research and development (renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy storage and smart grids) which will benefit the community and for sustainable development: ensure access to affordable, reliable, clean and modern energy systems.
  • Develop innovative energy research using state of the art research facilities to tackle the energy challenges of relevance to local community, region and world.
  • Develop a strong outreach and cooperation with national, regional and international research, business and government organizations, for example Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority – SEWA (Solar Research Program and Smart Grids) and Bee'ah (Waste to Energy).
  • Serve as a platform for collaborative research efforts fostering the interaction between Academia, Government Agencies and Industry in the energy field - Enhance Triple-Helix Model for energy and power innovation to foster economic and social development.

Contributing toward industry:

Also, the Center for Sustainable Energy and Power Systems will support local industry with scientific collaboration related to renewable energy, energy storage systems and power systems by:

  • Establish and enhance current collaboration with local community on research projects related to renewable energy, energy storage systems and power systems. 
  • Establish and enhance current links with the international communities.
  • Collaborate with all Government institutes who are engaged in the field of renewable energy, energy storage systems and power systems.
  • Ensure that the research outcomes will benefit both the research center and the involved partner by having common publications and patents.
  • Organize regular workshops and conferences in partnership with the local industry and institutes involved in renewable energy, energy storage systems and power systems.
  • Implement the concept of circular economy in collaboration with the local community.
  • Organize technical exchange meeting with the industry on energy and power systems.
  • Promote transfer of key technologies to the industry through Sharjah Oasis for Technology and Innovation (SOTI).
  • Establish an industrial board to have a full engagement with the local industry and enterprises.

Contributing toward graduate studies and research:

The Center for Sustainable Energy and Power Systems will:

  • Provide graduate students with the state of art in the field of renewable energy, energy storage systems and power systems.
  • Provide graduates with supervision on wide range of projects related to the research Centre scope.
  • Engage graduates with applied projects in collaboration with industry and enterprises.
  • Engage graduates with exchange international programs to enhance their international collaboration.
  • Mentor and encourage graduates to publish high quality papers.
  • Mentor, guide and support graduates to spin out company as part of UOS research and entrepreneurship initiative.
  • Mentor, guide and support graduates to create an innovative application which consequently will be patented.
  • Recruit and engage graduate and undergraduate students in the research teams as co-researchers and research assistants. 
  • Contribute to the University of Sharjah strategic research in the energy field.
  • Contribute and support new graduate programs that are consistent with the University's strategic directions.
  • Support the existing Master and PhD programs at the Colleges of Engineering, Sciences and Computing & Informatics by developing and encouraging interdisciplinary research. 
  • Attract talented and highly motivated faculty and researchers in the energy and power research areas to support multi-disciplinary research.
  • Enhance the collaboration between the different research groups working on energy and power systems: energy harvesting, energy storage, energy management, and power quality & distribution.
  • Enhance the international collaboration and the visibility of the University of Sharjah. 
  • Increase the external research funding – seek external funding at the local, regional and global levels to support the energy and power research program at the University of Sharjah.
