The UoS has been ranked 301-350 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. UoS is ranked 53 worldwide in Research Quality, UoS is ranked 69 in THE Young University Rankings 2024. 

In THE World University Rankings 2024 by Subjects, UoS was ranked among the top 300 universities globally in five disciplines: Clinical and Health, Engineering, Business and Economics, Computer Sciences, and Physical Sciences. UOS is also among the top 400 globally (301-400) in Social Sciences subjects. Consistently. In UN-SDGs sustainability rankings by THE, known as THE Impact rankings 2024, UoS is ranked (301–400). UoS was particularly ranked #68 globally for Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), and top #200 in Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16).

UoS also participates in the QS World University Rankings and has progressed from the rank 700+ in 2018 to the rank 434 in 2025. QS ranked the UoS among the top 100 universities globally in Petroleum Engineering related disciplines, and among the top 300 global universities in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, dentistry, and Mechanical Engineering related disciplines.
