History of UoS
The University of Sharjah (UoS) was established in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al-Qassimi, a visionary leader, member of the UAE Supreme Council, and Ruler of Sharjah. His Highness envisioned a distinctive academic institution that would integrate Islamic and Arabian culture and traditions while meeting the educational needs of the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region.
UoS has steadily expanded to become a cornerstone of academic excellence.
On September 11, 2007, the Khorfakkan campus opened its doors to cater to the educational demands of the eastern region, marking a pivotal moment in the University’s growth.
On June 11, 2011, the University Hospital Sharjah and the University Dental Hospital Sharjah were inaugurated, enhancing our dedication to health and medical sciences. Earlier that year, on February 28, the Kalba campus was also launched.
On December 17, 2015, UoS further expanded with the establishment of the Dhaid campus. Constructed at a cost of 60 million AED, it provides a state-of-the-art learning environment that reflects the our commitment to higher education.
On March 24, 2012, a three-story library was opened on the women’s campus, followed by a similar facility on the men’s campus in 2013. The Fine Arts Library was added in 2023, and the Medical Library followed in 2024.
