Welcome to the Health Care Management Department at the University of Sharjah! Here, we extend a warm invitation to explore the dynamic features of our department, where innovation and excellence converge in the realm of healthcare management.
Established in 1999, our Bachelor's program in Health Care Management (formerly known as the Health Services Administration - HSA) stands as a pioneer in integrating diverse aspects of healthcare management. This four-year program, spanning 134 credits, is accredited by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It focuses on evaluating and managing significant contemporary issues in healthcare administration, encompassing leadership, health policy, human resources management, strategic planning, quality improvement, digital health, and more.
As a distinctive feature of our department, we pride ourselves on offering a robust, multi-disciplinary program meticulously crafted to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required to excel as leaders and healthcare managers. Study Plan
What You Will Learn
Through appropriate education and training, this program graduates environmental health professionals equipped with an understanding of how the environment impacts health and how to assess and control environmental determinants having an impact on health. Students further learn to develop and modify plans that will help to protect the environment. Graduates find employment in ministries, federal environmental agencies, health centers and hospitals, petroleum and gas companies, factories, municipalities, environmental institutions, ports, airports, and academia.

The course provides students with an understanding of the major economic forces and issues involved in the health care system that are of relevance for health care administrators. This course examines the health care industry, supply and demand for health services, production of health, relationship between health and health care, health insurance, government programs, supply and demand for physicians, nurses, drugs, and technology, hospitals, and the role of insurance, government, professional groups, and for-profit and not-for-profit providers in health care markets. The course introduces students to the structure and components of medical terms: prefixes, suffixes and word roots and how to break down a medical term by simply knowing the meaning of its components. In addition, the course introduces students to the structure and use of health care terminologies, classifications, and coding schemes, with special emphasis on International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), NANDA's Nursing Diagnoses, Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC), Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), National Drug Code (NDC), Common Dental Terminology (CDT), Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) and other relevant terminologies and classifications. |

Career Path
The HSA program prepares students for entry level managerial positions in a variety of health care settings, including, but not limited to hospitals, health centers, and health insurance organizations. The program emphasizes on the integration of scientific knowledge into the practice of health service administration in a variety of health care settings. The program provides its graduates with knowledge, problem-solving and life-long learning skills, professional competencies and basic principles necessary for success in a constantly evolving industry of healthcare. Additionally, it prepares them for graduate level education in health service administration.
