The University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Media City Sign a Memorandum of Cooperation

His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of cooperation between the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Media City (Shams) this Wednesday morning. The agreement aims to support the Master of Science in Media Leadership and Digital Innovation program, which was launched in collaboration between the University of Sharjah, Shams, and the University of Barcelona. The signing ceremony was held at the office of His Highness the President of the University of Sharjah by Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and Mr. Rashid Abdullah Al Obeid, Director of Sharjah Media City (Shams).

The memorandum of cooperation is part of the University of Sharjah's efforts to providing a world-class educational experience to its students through entering collaborative relations with prestigious institutions and organizations. It also reflects the determination of Sharjah Media City to create a supportive environment for media professionals and entrepreneurs in the region, offering a unique opportunity to highlight Shams’s vital role in supporting media professionals and future leaders.

The Master of Science in Media Leadership and Digital Innovation program aims to equip students with the skills necessary to specialize in emerging media fields through both theoretical and practical study. The program provides a contemporary understanding of digital media in a global, multicultural context. It includes training in essential media functions such as content production and management, technical structures, as well as the dynamics of management and economic feasibility associated with these fields. Advanced practical training is provided to foster entrepreneurship, allowing students to develop their own professional and commercial ventures.

Under the terms of the memorandum, the College of Communication at the University of Sharjah will oversee the academic management of the program, while Shams will offer financial support for the administration of the program, visiting faculty programs, and joint research initiatives. In addition, Sharjah Media City will contribute to the curriculum by offering media case studies, delivering lectures by a group of experts, and launching a mentorship program to support, train, and guide students under the supervision of industry leaders. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, utilize the facilities of Sharjah Media City for research, and gain the practical experience required to enhance their skills. Shams will also provide students with a free two-year license to develop their projects on its premises, with the possibility of extending the license for an additional year.
